The Pwnie Awards

I found this email in my Bugtraq this morning

The Pwnie Awards are an annual award ceremony celebrating the achivements and failures of security researchers and the security community.It will feature awards such as:

* Pwnie for Best Server-Side Bug
* Pwnie for Best Client-Side Bug
* Pwnie for Mass 0wnage
* Pwnie for Most Innovative Research
* Pwnie for Lamest Vendor Response
* Pwnie for Most Overhyped Bug

…and much more! Nominations are open until the end of the week. The ceremony
will take place next week in Las Vegas, stay tuned for more announcements.

Cool idea you think?

I agree, except for the ‘Pwnie for Mass 0wnage’. I believe its not a good thing to reward something like this. Although the person behind the mass-ownage will stay anonymous (unless he/she has been caught, judged and found guilty) this is still a milestone some people would like to accomplish.

I like the name Pwnie, its slang, sounds not very professional for ‘innocent bystanders’ but it describes the nature and form of community of the security crowd.
